Sarah Hwang

Sarah Hwang is a Korean-American picture book author and illustrator whose debut as an author-illustrator was the much-loved picture book Toasty, originally published in May 2021 by Margaret Ferguson Books/Holiday House. She received her BFA in Illustration from the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and is represented as a picture book creator by the agency Painted Words.

Hwang focuses on creating quirky, humorous, and relatable stories and characters for young readers, often drawing on her own experiences, including her childhood as a Korean immigrant and her longing to be accepted. In addition to Toasty, she continues to work professionally as a children’s book author-illustrator with multiple publishers, including Holiday House, Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing, and Penguin Random House.
