Shana Frazin
Shana Frazin is an educator, author, and literacy professional whose work focuses on helping students develop purposeful talk and strong reading and writing skills. She is co-author of Unlocking the Power of Classroom Talk: Teaching Kids to Talk with Clarity and Purpose, published by Heinemann, which offers practical strategies for teaching talk across the school day and for four key purposes of conversation: building relationships, playing with ideas, clarifying/analyzing/arguing, and reporting.
Frazin is a former classroom teacher who taught third, fourth, and fifth grades in the Pasadena and Los Angeles Unified School Districts. She has served as a faculty member at Pacific Oaks College, and she is a Senior Staff Developer and Co-Director of the Classroom Libraries Project at the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project, where she works closely with administrators, coaches, teachers, and students on the teaching of reading, writing, and content-area literacy. In addition, she works as a teacher librarian at Scarsdale Middle School.
