Shane Safir

Shane Safir is an educator, leadership coach, writer, and facilitator who has worked in public education for more than 20–25 years. She was the founding principal/co‑principal of June Jordan School for Equity (JJSE) in San Francisco, a public high school recognized by scholar Linda Darling‑Hammond as an innovative national model that has “beaten the odds in supporting the success of low-income students of color.” Safir has taught in San Francisco and Oakland and has spent over a decade providing equity‑centered leadership coaching, strategic planning, and professional learning support for schools, districts, and organizations across North America.

Safir is the author of The Listening Leader: Creating the Conditions for Equitable School Transformation (Jossey‑Bass/Wiley, 2017) and co‑author of Street Data: A Next-Generation Model for Equity, Pedagogy, and School Transformation (Corwin, 2021), written with Jamila Dugan. Her work focuses on educational equity, “street data,” and student agency, and she writes for major education outlets including Education Week, Edutopia, and ASCD’s Educational Leadership.
