Shawna Coppola

Shawna Coppola is a literacy educator, consultant, and author with more than two decades of experience teaching learners from kindergarten through university, with much of her career focused on middle school literacy and serving as a K–6 literacy specialist and coach. She has also worked as a children’s librarian and currently designs and facilitates professional learning for educators, speaks at national education conferences, and serves as a Fellow and literacy consultant with The Educator Collaborative, as well as on the faculty of the University of New Hampshire’s Learning Through Teaching program.

Coppola is the author of Renew!: Become a Better and More Authentic Writing Teacher (Stenhouse, 2017) and Writing, Redefined: Broadening Our Ideas of What It Means to Compose (Stenhouse/Routledge, 2019/2020), which invite teachers to expand classroom definitions of writing to include visual, aural, and other multimodal forms of composition. She has also written numerous articles and essays for professional outlets including Voices from the Middle, Literacy Today, The Reading Teacher, Education Week, and the Nerdy Book Club blog.
