Sheila Keenan

Sheila Keenan is an established author of fiction and nonfiction for young readers, best known for works that explore history, symbolism, and storytelling across formats. Her books include the Eisner-nominated graphic novel Dogs of War, the picture book As the Crow Flies, the nonfiction title I Spy the Illuminati Eye: What’s the Big Secret?, and O, Say Can You See? America’s Symbols, Landmarks, and Inspiring Words, among others. She has also written several titles in popular educational and biography series, including early readers on John F. Kennedy and Benjamin Franklin, as well as installments in the “What Is the Story of…?” line such as books on Frankenstein, the Mummy, the Headless Horseman, and Godzilla.

Keenan earned a Master of Arts in English literature from the University of Massachusetts and has pursued further studies in comparative religion and history. In addition to her trade nonfiction like The Scholastic Encyclopedia of Women in the United States, she has produced both picture books and graphic novels that introduce complex historical and cultural topics to young audiences. She was born in New Jersey and lives in New York City.
