Shelly M. Jones

Dr. Shelly M. Jones is a Professor of Mathematics Education at Central Connecticut State University, where she teaches undergraduate mathematics content and methods courses for pre-service teachers and graduate-level mathematics, curriculum, and STEM courses for in-service teachers. A mathematics educator for approximately 30 years, she previously worked as a middle school mathematics teacher and K–12 mathematics administrator and provides mathematics professional development nationally and internationally. Her research and professional interests include culturally relevant mathematics teaching and cognitively demanding mathematics tasks.

Jones is co-author of Engaging in Culturally Relevant Math Tasks, K–5: Fostering Hope in the Elementary Classroom and Engaging in Culturally Relevant Math Tasks, 6–12: Fostering Hope in the Middle and High School Classroom, both in the Corwin Mathematics Series. She is also the author of Women Who Count: Honoring African American Women Mathematicians, and has contributed to the volume The Brilliance of Black Children in Mathematics: Beyond the Numbers and Toward New Discourse.
