Shira Leibowitz
Shira Leibowitz is an educator, author, and entrepreneur who specializes in instructional leadership and innovative school design. She is coauthor of The Coach Approach to School Leadership: Leading Teachers to Higher Levels of Effectiveness, written with Jessica Johnson and Kathy Perret, which focuses on helping principals use instructional coaching practices to support teacher growth. She has worked in education for nearly three decades, including about twenty years as a principal of pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade independent schools in the greater New York City area, and has extensive experience coaching teachers and leading professional learning for educators.
Leibowitz holds a Ph.D. in education and serves on the doctoral faculty at Northeastern University, where she teaches and advises education doctoral students. She is founder and CEO of Discovery Village Childcare Center and Preschool in Tarrytown, New York, and of Revabilities, a professional learning and leadership development organization for educational entrepreneurs. Her work also includes leadership roles in reimagining student-centered, project-based learning in schools, and she has authored another education-focused book, Havens of Hope: Ideas for Redesigning Education from the COVID-19 Pandemic.
