Dr. Stephen G. Peters is a nationally recognized educator, author, and school‑turnaround specialist with more than three decades of experience in K–12 education as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, principal, director of secondary education, and superintendent of schools. He is the CEO and president of The Peters Group, an education consulting company, and the founder of widely recognized Gentlemen’s Club and Ladies Club mentoring programs for at‑risk and honor students, which have been featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show and the international program America, America. Peters has also served as president of the Board of Directors of the International Literacy Association.
Peters is the author of Do You Know Enough about Me to Teach Me: A Student’s Perspective and Do You Know Enough About Me to Teach Me? 3rd Edition, works that draw on extensive student interviews and focus on building effective relationships and engagement in the classroom. His other published works include Teaching to Capture and Inspire All Learners and Choosing to Believe: Creating a Framework for School Success, the latter recognized in the USA Best Books awards for pre‑K–12 education. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Hampton University, a master’s degree from Old Dominion University, an Ed.D. from South Carolina State University, and has completed additional study at Yale University’s Child Study Center
