Steven Katz

Steven Katz is co-author of Quality Implementation: Leveraging Collective Efficacy to Make “What Works” Actually Work, written with Jenni Donohoo and focused on using collective efficacy to turn evidence-based practices into effective, sustainable school improvement. He is director of Aporia Consulting Ltd. and a faculty member in Applied Psychology and Human Development at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto, where he teaches in the Child Study and Education graduate program.

Katz holds a PhD in human development and applied psychology with a specialization in applied cognitive science and has received both an OISE-wide teaching excellence award and the Governor General’s Medal for excellence in his field. His areas of expertise include cognition and learning, teacher education, networked learning communities, leading professional learning, and evidence‑informed decision making for school improvement, and he has worked in research, evaluation, professional development, and consulting with educational organizations internationally. He is the author or co-author of several influential books for educators, including Leading Schools in a Data-Rich World, Building and Connecting Learning Communities, Intentional Interruption, and The Intelligent, Responsive Leader, as well as numerous articles on collective efficacy and networked learning communities.[15
