Susan A. Ambrose

Susan A. Ambrose is an educator and author best known for How Learning Works: Seven Research-Based Principles for Smart Teaching. She earned a doctorate in American history from Carnegie Mellon University and has held academic leadership roles in teaching and learning.

Ambrose served as associate provost for education, director of the Eberly Center for Teaching Excellence, and a teaching professor in the Department of History at Carnegie Mellon University. She later became senior vice vice chancellor for educational innovation at Northeastern University and has coauthored several books and numerous scholarly chapters and articles on higher education, teaching, and learning.
