Susan Albertine

Susan Albertine is an independent higher education consultant and writer whose work focuses on liberal education, general education, equity, and student success. She is co-author of Becoming a Student-Ready College: A New Culture of Leadership for Student Success, first published in 2016 and updated in a second edition in 2022, which calls for institutions to transform their culture and practices to better support diverse students.

Albertine is a retired Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Student Success at the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U), where she previously directed the LEAP States Initiative and later served as a senior scholar for faculty and integrative liberal learning. Her career has included academic leadership roles as dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and professor of English at The College of New Jersey, as well as service as vice provost for undergraduate studies at Temple University and assistant to the provost at the University of Pennsylvania. An American literary historian and former public school teacher, she has taught English at institutions including the University of North Florida, St. Olaf College, Susquehanna University, and Chicago State University, and has been active nationally in P–20 alignment initiatives such as the American Diploma Project.
