Susan J. Ashford
Susan J. (Sue) Ashford is the Michael and Susan Jandernoa Professor of Management and Organizations at the University of Michigan’s Stephen M. Ross School of Business, where she also serves as chair of the Management and Organizations group. She has been on the Michigan Ross faculty since the early 1990s, after previously serving on the faculty of the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College, and she holds MS and PhD degrees from Northwestern University. Over her career at Ross she has held several senior leadership roles, including Senior Associate Dean, Associate Dean for Leadership Development Programming, faculty director of the Executive MBA program, and area chair for Management and Organizations.
Ashford is an award‑winning scholar whose research focuses on topics such as self‑leadership, individual proactivity, feedback seeking, issue selling, leadership development, and change from below, with her work published in leading journals including Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Journal, Administrative Science Quarterly, Strategic Management Journal, and the Journal of Applied Psychology. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Management and has received major career honors, including the Academy of Management’s Career Achievement Award for Distinguished Scholarly Contributions to Management and the Organizational Behavior Division Lifetime Achievement Award.
