Tala M. Karkar-Esperat
Tala M. Karkar Esperat is an associate professor of curriculum and instruction at Eastern New Mexico University. Her work focuses on preservice teachers’ literacies, multilingual and bilingual education, new literacies, multiliteracies, and semiotics.
She is the author of Teaching Multilingual Students Through Culture and Language: An Elementary Teacher’s Guide to Self-Discovery Using Semiotics, published by Routledge, and her faculty profile notes that she is a former ESL elementary teacher and librarian. Her background also includes a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a major in Language, Diversity, and Literacy Studies from Texas Tech University, an M.P.A. from Lamar University, and a bachelor’s degree in teaching English as a second or foreign language from Bethlehem University.
