Tami Charles

Tami Charles is a New York Times bestselling author of more than twenty books for children and young adults, including the acclaimed titles All Because You Matter, We Are Here, Like Vanessa, Muted, and the picture book biography Ketanji Brown Jackson: A Justice for All. Her work has received multiple starred reviews, Junior Library Guild selections, and recognition from outlets such as Essence, Entertainment Weekly, BuzzFeed (Top 40), and The New York Times Book Review. A former elementary school teacher, she now writes full-time, creating picture books, middle grade novels, young adult fiction, and nonfiction that affirm and inspire young readers.

Charles holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from Saint Elizabeth University and a master’s degree in Educational Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University, and she is certified in principalship in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. Her earlier experience performing in an all-girl R&B group, including appearances on BET, helped inspire her YA verse novel Muted. She lives in New Jersey with her family and frequently visits schools across the country and abroad to share her stories with students.
