Tenena M. Soro

Tenena M. Soro, PhD, has taught linguistics, cross-cultural education, foundations, and reading at National Louis University, where he received the Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award. He has also taught ethics and philosophy, linguistics, and social science at Columbia College Chicago, Northeastern Illinois University, and Northwestern University.

Originally from Ivory Coast, Soro earned a doctorate in linguistics and a Graduate Certificate in African Studies from Northwestern University, along with two undergraduate degrees from Université d’Abidjan. His dissertation included the first analysis of the syntax patterns of his native language, Senufo/Cibaari, and he has presented on linguistics and ESL topics at state and national conferences. He is a coauthor of Building Literacy with Multilingual Learners: Third Edition: Insights from Linguistics with Kristin Lems and Gareth Charles.
