Teresa Lara-Meloy is a senior mathematics education designer at TERC, where she focuses on middle school mathematics and the professional development of math teachers and coaches. She designs technology-integrated curricular and professional development materials and has led projects that investigate how students engage in the Common Core State Standards for Mathematical Practice and how emergent multilingual learners, particularly Spanish-speaking students, participate in mathematical discourse using dynamic representational technologies. She holds an Ed.M. in Technology in Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a B.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University.
Lara-Meloy is a coauthor of Mathematical Argumentation in Middle School: The What, Why, and How: A Step-by-Step Guide With Activities, Games, and Lesson Planning Tools, published by Corwin, which presents a four-part model—generating cases, conjecturing, justifying, and concluding—for supporting mathematical argumentation in grades 5–8. Her work on mathematical and scientific argumentation in PreK–12 education has been cited in research on classroom argumentation, and her technology-integrated materials have been used by tens of thousands of students.
