Terrance M. Scott

Terrance M. Scott, Ph.D., is a Professor and Distinguished University Scholar in the Department of Special Education, Early Childhood, and Prevention Science at the University of Louisville, where he also serves as Director of the Center for Instructional and Behavioral Research in Schools. He is a Senior Principal Education Researcher at SRI (Stanford Research Institute), and has spent more than two decades as a professor of special education, focusing on effective systems and practices for students with challenging behavior. Scott holds a Ph.D. in Special Education/Behavioral Disorders and a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Oregon, as well as an M.S. in Special Education/Behavioral Disorders from Portland State University.

Scott is the author of multiple works on classroom instruction and behavior, including Creating an Actively Engaged Classroom: 14 Strategies for Student Success, Teacher and Student Behaviors: Keys to Success in Classroom Instruction, and Teaching Behavior: Managing Classrooms Through Effective Instruction. His research and writing emphasize the use of effective, engaging instruction and classroom management practices to promote student success, and he has published numerous peer‑reviewed articles on school discipline, classroom management, and the impact of adult behavior on student outcomes.
