Thomas DeVere Wolsey
Thomas DeVere Wolsey, EdD, is an international literacy consultant who teaches graduate courses in research, assessment, and literacy and leads professional development for teachers throughout the United States and in countries such as Egypt, Guatemala, Mexico, China, and Denmark. He previously taught English, social studies, and other elective classes in public schools for more than twenty years and has developed training materials for the California Department of Education, TextProject, San Diego State University, and other institutions and programs.
Wolsey is the author or coauthor of numerous books for teachers and teacher educators, including Mining Complex Text, Grades 2–5 and Mining Complex Text, Grades 6–12, as well as Literacy in the Disciplines: A Teacher’s Guide for Grades 5–12, Assessment Literacy: An Educator’s Guide to Understanding Assessment, K–12, and Teaching the Language Arts: Forward Thinking in Today’s Classrooms. His research and writing focus on the intersections of literacy and technology, middle and secondary literacy practices, teacher preparation and professional development, green school design, and education for refugees and displaced students.
