Thomas M. Van Soelen, PhD, is an educational leadership coach and professional development trainer whose work focuses on instructional strategies, professional learning communities, critical friendship, leadership development, and teacher evaluation. He is the author of Meeting Goals: Protocols for Leading Effective, Purpose-Driven Discussions in Schools, a guide to using structured protocols to lead efficient, equitable, and outcome-focused discussions in educational settings.
Van Soelen has served in public and private schools across multiple states, teaching prekindergarten through grade 12, and has also taught both undergraduate and graduate courses. He previously spent eight years as associate superintendent for the City Schools of Decatur, Georgia and has been active in national professional organizations, including AASA, Learning Forward, and ASCD, as well as serving on the national board of the School Reform Initiative. His writing has appeared in publications such as Journal of Staff Development, Principal Leadership, Education Week, and School Administrator.
