Thomas R Hoerr

Thomas R. Hoerr is an educator, author, and school leader who served as head of New City School in St. Louis, Missouri, for 34 years and is now its emeritus head of school. He teaches in the educational leadership program at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, where he works with prospective principals, and he holds a PhD in educational planning and policy development from Washington University in St. Louis.

Hoerr is the author of Taking Social-Emotional Learning Schoolwide: The Formative Five Success Skills for Students and Staff and several other books on school leadership and student success, including Becoming a Multiple Intelligences School, The Art of School Leadership, School Leadership for the Future, Fostering Grit, and The Formative Five: Fostering Grit, Empathy, and Other Success Skills Every Student Needs. He has also written more than 150 articles on education and leadership, notably contributing “The Principal Connection” column to Educational Leadership magazine for many years.
