Timothy Dohrer

Timothy Dohrer is an educator, author, and longtime school leader with more than 30 years of experience in K–12 schools and higher education. He has been a teacher and principal at New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois, and later served as director of teacher education and teacher leadership programs, as well as an assistant professor, at Northwestern University’s School of Education and Social Policy. His academic background includes B.A. degrees in English and journalism from Indiana University, an M.A. in English from Northwestern University, and a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from Pennsylvania State University.

Dohrer is co-author of The Schools We Need Now: A Guide to Designing a Mentally Healthy School, published by Corwin in 2024, which focuses on embedding mental health at the center of school culture and practice. His major areas of research and professional expertise include social and emotional learning, school climate, curriculum theory, teacher education, and educational leadership.
