Timothy V. Rasinski

Timothy V. Rasinski is a professor emeritus of literacy education at Kent State University, where he has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in reading and literacy and directed an award-winning reading clinic and Reading and Writing Development Center. A leading scholar in reading fluency, word study, and support for struggling readers, he has published over 200 articles and more than 50 books or curriculum programs on reading education, and his research has been cited by the National Reading Panel and featured in major journals such as Reading Research Quarterly and The Reading Teacher. Rasinski is the first author of the reading fluency chapter in the Handbook of Reading Research, has served as president of the Association of Literacy Educators and Researchers (formerly the College Reading Association), and was elected to the International Reading Hall of Fame; he has also received honors including the A. B. Herr and Laureate Awards and the William S. Gray Citation of Merit from the International Literacy Association.

Rasinski earned his Ph.D. in Reading, Language Arts, and Children’s Literature from The Ohio State University and previously taught literacy education at the University of Georgia as well as serving as an elementary and middle-grade classroom and Title I reading teacher.
