Tom Schimmer

Tom Schimmer is an education author, speaker, and consultant with expertise in assessment, grading, leadership, behavioral support, RTI, and educational leadership. Over more than twenty years in school systems, he has worked as a classroom teacher, school administrator (including high school principal), and district-level leader responsible for curriculum, instruction, and building instructional capacity. Based in British Columbia, Canada, his current work focuses on modernizing assessment and grading practices and supporting schools and districts across Canada, the United States, and internationally through keynotes, workshops, and consulting. He holds a teaching degree from Boise State University and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of British Columbia.

Schimmer is the author or co-author of multiple books on assessment and grading, including Grading From the Inside Out: Bringing Accuracy to Student Assessment Through a Standards-Based Mindset, a best‑selling guide to implementing standards-based grading.
