Tony Stead
Tony Stead is an Australian educator and internationally known literacy specialist who has taught at the elementary level and lectured at universities. He has served as senior national literacy consultant for Mondo Publishing and as facilitator for the Boston Public Schools’ Balanced Early Literacy Project. He is also a past president of the Melbourne Chapter of the Australian Reading Association.
Stead is the author of numerous professional resources on reading and writing instruction, including Is That a Fact?: Teaching Nonfiction Writing K–3, Reality Checks: Teaching Reading Comprehension with Nonfiction K–5, Good Choice!: Supporting Independent Reading and Response K–6, Should There Be Zoos?: A Persuasive Text, and the Explorations in Nonfiction Writing series coauthored with Linda Hoyt. His work also includes video series such as Time for Nonfiction and Bridges to Independence: Guided Reading with Nonfiction, and he has been a keynote speaker at conferences and a literacy consultant for school districts internationally.
