Tracey T. Flores

Tracey T. Flores is an associate professor of language and literacy in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Texas at Austin, where she teaches Language Arts Methods and Community Literacies in the K–5 teacher education program. A former English Language Development and English Language Arts teacher, she spent eight years working with culturally and linguistically diverse K–8 students, families, and communities in Glendale and Phoenix, Arizona. Her research focuses on the language and literacy practices of Latina girls and their families, the teaching of young writers in culturally and linguistically diverse classrooms, and family and community literacies.

Flores is co-author of Cultivating Young Multilingual Writers: Nurturing Voices and Stories in and beyond the Classroom Walls, a 2023 NCTE Principles in Practice series title for K–5 educators, written with María E. Fránquiz. She is also the founder of Somos Escritoras/We Are Writers, a writing and art workshop and creative space for Latina girls (grades 6–12) that invites them, and in some projects their mothers, to share and perform stories from their lived experiences through art, theater, and writing.
