Tracy Johnston Zager

Tracy Johnston Zager is a math teacher, coach, author, and editor based in Maine. She began her career as a fourth‑grade classroom teacher, later working as a supervisor of pre‑service teachers and their in‑service mentors before moving into her current role as a K–6 math coach. Zager has spent several years conducting classroom‑based field research with highly skilled math teachers in a wide range of grades and school settings, focusing on how students and teachers talk about mathematics and how effective teachers engage students in rich mathematical activity.

Zager is the author of Becoming the Math Teacher You Wish You’d Had: Ideas and Strategies from Vibrant Classrooms, a professional resource for elementary and middle school teachers that grew out of her long‑term work in classrooms and a math methods course at the University of Washington. She also serves as a Math and Science Editor for Stenhouse Publishers, editing professional development books for teachers, and is the coauthor of the Building Fact Fluency toolkits with educator Graham Fletcher.
