    Travis Crowder

    Travis Crowder

    Travis Crowder is a National Board Certified educator and author who teaches seventh grade English/language arts and social studies at East Alexander Middle School in Hiddenite, North Carolina, with teaching experience spanning both middle and high school levels. He studied literature and language, specializing in British literature, at the University of North Carolina–Asheville, and completed a Master’s in Instruction at the University of North Carolina–Charlotte. Crowder is an active member of professional literacy organizations, including the International Literacy Association (ILA) and the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), and has presented at their conferences on topics such as choice reading, developing reading lives, reflective thinking, and finding joy in ordinariness.

    Crowder is the co-author, with Todd Nesloney, of Sparks in the Dark: Lessons, Ideas, and Strategies to Illuminate the Reading and Writing Lives in All of Us, a book that draws on their classroom experiences to promote authentic, engaging reading and writing instruction. He is also the author of Reflective Readers: The Power of Reader’s Notebooks, which focuses on using notebooks to deepen students’ thinking about texts.
