Valerie Ellery

Valerie Ellery is a National Board Certified Teacher, curriculum specialist, mentor, reading coach, and international educational consultant who has dedicated three decades or more to the field of education, with a particular focus on literacy instruction. She is the author of the best-selling professional text Creating Strategic Readers and coauthor of Sustaining Strategic Readers: Techniques for Supporting Content Literacy in Grades 6–12, works that have been used in classrooms and universities internationally to support rigorous literacy teaching.

Ellery is also a coauthor of Literacy Strong All Year Long: Powerful Lessons for Grades K–2 and Literacy Strong All Year Long: Powerful Lessons for Grades 3–5, as well as multiple student readers for Saint Mary’s Press that include guiding questions, vocabulary support, and retell-it cards. In addition to her literacy publications, she has coauthored secondary curricula addressing self-worth and human trafficking, including Bodies Are Not Commodities and Shine Hope, which have been used with young adults in numerous countries.
