Vicki Spandel
Vicki Spandel is a writing teacher, author, and developer of the Six-Trait Writing model, known for her extensive work helping educators and students improve writing instruction and assessment. She has spent her career working with students and teachers of writing in roles including classroom instructor, online writing coach, journalist, editor, technical writer, and curriculum developer. She is the author of multiple influential books on writing, including Creating Writers, Creating Young Writers, and The 9 Rights of Every Writer, as well as more than forty books on writing and writing instruction overall.
Spandel coauthored Teaching Nonfiction Revision: A Professional Writer Shares Strategies, Tips, and Lessons with children’s nonfiction author Sneed B. Collard III, contributing classroom-focused strategies, lessons, and exercises to support students’ nonfiction revision skills. Her work with the Six-Trait Writing model and related resources has been widely used in schools and professional development to guide trait-based writing assessment and instruction.
