Vivian Troen

Vivian Troen is a classroom teacher, teacher educator, and consultant known for her work on teacher leadership, professional development, and collaborative teacher learning. She has coauthored several influential books with Katherine C. Boles, including Who’s Teaching Your Children: Why the Teacher Crisis Is Worse Than You Think and What Can Be Done About It (Yale University Press, 2003), The Power of Teacher Teams: With Cases, Analyses, and Strategies for Success, and The Power of Teacher Rounds: A Guide for Rounds Facilitators, Principals, and Department Chairs (Corwin, 2014). She has also coauthored works such as The Teaching Project: A Model for Teacher Empowerment and Leadership from the Classroom: Women Teachers as a Key to School Reform, which focus on teacher empowerment and school reform.

Troen has extensive experience as a public school teacher in Brookline, Massachusetts, and has been closely involved in creating one of the nation’s early professional development schools linking colleges and public schools for both preservice and inservice teacher learning. She serves as a lecturer and senior education specialist at Brandeis University, where she directs or co-directs induction and teacher learning initiatives at the Mandel Center, supporting new teachers and leading professional learning for school administrators.
