Washington Collado

Dr. Washington B. “Nino” Collado is an educator, school leader, and author specializing in family-school partnerships and leadership in high-poverty communities. Born in the Dominican Republic, he immigrated to New York in 1975 and began his education in New York City public schools, later starting his career in 1986 as a Spanish and English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher in New York City before moving to Florida to continue teaching. He subsequently served as an assistant principal and principal for 16 years, leading diverse schools, and was named Broward County’s Principal of the Year in 2021.

Collado holds a PhD in Educational Leadership from Florida Atlantic University and serves as an associate with Creative Leadership Solutions and an adjunct professor at Florida Atlantic University. He has presented nationally and internationally on leadership and family engagement. His publications include Empowered Families, Thriving Students: Unlocking the Potential of Family-School Partnerships (coauthored with Alex Marrero and Belinda Reyes), Four Pillars to Guide Visionary Educators, Parents, Don’t Forget Your Homework, and Padres, no olviden su tarea (3rd ed.).
