Yvette Jackson

Yvette Jackson, Ed.D., is an internationally recognized educator known for her work in assessing the learning potential of disenfranchised urban students and developing practices that elicit high intellectual performance in underachieving students. She has conducted research in literacy, gifted education, and cognitive mediation theory, and used this work to design the New York City Gifted Programs Framework while serving as director of gifted programs for the New York City Board of Education. As executive director of instruction and professional development for the New York City Board of Education, she led the development and implementation of the Comprehensive Education Plan for New York City public schools. Jackson serves as an adjunct professor of Educational Leadership at Teachers College, Columbia University and is the author of The Pedagogy of Confidence: Inspiring High Intellectual Performance in Urban Schools (Teachers College Press, 2011).

She is chief executive officer of the National Urban Alliance for Effective Education, founded at the College Board and Teachers College, Columbia University. Jackson is coauthor of Aim High, Achieve More: How to Transform Urban Schools Through Fearless Leadership and Unlocking Student Potential: How Do I Identify and Activate Student Strengths, both published by ASCD.
