Alice Oakley

Alice Oakley is an instructional coach, author, and cofounder of Education Resource Group (ERG), an organization established in 2004 that provides staff development services focused on improving teaching and learning in preK–12 education. A National Board Certified Teacher, she has taught elementary, middle, and high school classes in subjects including science, social studies, and English language arts, and has also served as a curriculum facilitator and as a member of a district-level formative assessment team. She holds a bachelor’s degree in early and middle grades education from Radford University and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Oakley is the coauthor, with assessment expert Susan M. Brookhart, of “How to Look at Student Work to Uncover Student Thinking” (ASCD, 2021), which guides teachers in using student work to better understand and support student learning across grade levels and content areas. She has also developed professional learning materials for teachers, instructional leaders, administrators, and parents on academic topics, instructional practices, and human behavior in classroom contexts.
