Austin Buffum
Austin Buffum, EdD, is an education consultant and author with more than thirty‑eight years of experience in public schools. He has served in multiple roles, including senior deputy superintendent of the Capistrano Unified School District in California, and was recognized as the 2006 Curriculum and Instruction Administrator of the Year by the Association of California School Administrators. Buffum is a graduate of the University of Southern California, where he earned a bachelor of music and a master of education degree with honors, and he also holds a doctor of education degree from Nova Southeastern University.
Buffum is widely known for his work with RTI at Work™, presenting in hundreds of school districts in the United States and internationally on tiered intervention systems grounded in Professional Learning Communities (PLC) at Work®. He is coauthor of several professional resources, including Behavior Solutions: Teaching Academic and Social Skills Through RTI at Work (with John Hannigan, Jessica Djabrayan Hannigan, and Mike Mattos), Best Practices at Tier 3 [Elementary]: Intensive Interventions for Remediation, Elementary and Best Practices at Tier 3, Secondary (with Paula Rogers/Rodgers, W. Richard Smith, and Mike Mattos), and Taking Action: A Handbook for RTI at Work and its second edition (with Mike Mattos and colleagues).[5
