Edward C. Nolan

Edward C. Nolan is an assistant professor of education at Moravian University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where he teaches courses on the middle-level learner, mathematics methods across grade bands, and field placement support. He previously taught middle and high school mathematics for 19 years, served as a department chair for 15 years, and was director of mathematics, PreK–12, for Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland for five years. He earned a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction—Mathematics Education from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a master’s degree in educational administration from McDaniel College.

Nolan is a coauthor of the Making Sense of Mathematics for Teaching series, including Grades K–2, Grades 3–5, Grades 6–8, and High School: Understanding How to Use Functions. His research focuses on helping preservice and in-service teachers make sense of mathematics for teaching and use effective questioning, and he has been published in state and national journals and presented at state and national conferences, including webinars for NCTM and TODOS.
