Gregory Donoghue

Gregory Donoghue, Ph.D., is a learning scientist, researcher, and lecturer specializing in the science of human learning and student wellbeing. He serves as an honorary researcher and lecturer at the University of Melbourne’s Graduate School of Education and the Science of Learning Research Centre, where he works closely with Professor John Hattie on meta-analyses and conceptual models of learning. His Ph.D. in educational neuroscience focused on integrating insights from neuroscience and educational psychology into practical frameworks for teaching and learning, including co-developing the Hattie–Donoghue learning model.

Before entering academia, Donoghue spent over 30 years working with vulnerable children as a child abuse detective with Victoria Police and as a statutory child protection investigator. He now draws on additional qualifications in psychology, criminology, education, and neuroscience to design and deliver evidence-based learning interventions for children and adults, particularly those affected by trauma and mental health challenges. Donoghue is a coauthor of Great Learners by Design: Principles and Practices to Supercharge Learners and has published on learning strategies, conceptual frameworks for the learning sciences, and the application of neuroscience to education.
