Jennifer Bay-Williams

Jennifer Bay-Williams is a professor of mathematics education at the University of Louisville in Kentucky, where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses for preservice teachers, emerging elementary mathematics specialists, and doctoral students, and works in local schools to support effective mathematics teaching and learning. She holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, with an emphasis in K–12 mathematics education, from the University of Missouri–Columbia, an M.Ed. in Secondary Education from the same institution, and a B.A. in Mathematics and Secondary Education from DePauw University, and previously taught K–12 mathematics in Missouri and in Peru before becoming a teacher educator.

Bay-Williams is a nationally recognized leader in mathematics education and a prolific author, having written numerous books, journal articles, and book chapters focused on procedural fluency and mathematical proficiency. Her works include the Figuring Out Fluency series, Math Fact Fluency: 60+ Games and Assessment Tools to Support Learning and Retention, and widely used texts such as Elementary and Middle School Mathematics: Teaching Developmentally and the Teaching Student-Centered Mathematics series. Her professional service includes membership on the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Board of Directors, leadership roles as president and secretary of the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (AMTE), lead writer for the AMTE Standards for Preparing Teachers of Mathematics, and service on the Board of Directors of TODOS: Mathematics for All.
