John T. Almarode

John T. Almarode is a Professor of Education in the College of Education at James Madison University, where he works with preservice and graduate teachers and researches the science of learning and classroom environments that promote student engagement and achievement. He began his career teaching mathematics and science in Augusta County, Virginia, and holds a B.S. in Physics and Mathematics from Bridgewater College, an M.A.T. in Gifted/Exceptional Education from Mary Baldwin College, and a Ph.D. in Science Education from the University of Virginia.

Almarode is a bestselling author of more than a dozen books on effective teaching and learning, including Clarity for Learning: Five Essential Practices That Empower Students and Teachers, Captivate, Activate, and Invigorate the Student Brain in Science and Math, Grades 6–12, and PLC+ the Texas Way: Transforming Teacher Teams to Accelerate Student Learning, as well as co‑authored works such as Visible Learning for Science, How Learning Works, and How Tutoring Works. His work on the science of learning and professional learning communities (PLC+) has been presented to bodies such as the United States Congress, the Virginia Senate, the U.S. Department of Education, and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
