Julie A. Schmidt

Julie A. Schmidt is an educational leader and author with extensive experience in special education and professional learning communities. She has served as a school psychologist, director of student services, associate superintendent of student services, and most recently as superintendent of schools for Kildeer Countryside Community Consolidated School District 96 in Illinois, a district whose seven schools have been recognized as Model PLC at Work® schools. Her work focuses on professional learning communities, leadership and change, and collaboration between general and special education.

Schmidt is the coauthor of Yes We Can! General and Special Educators Collaborating in a Professional Learning Community and The Collaborative IEP: Working Together for Life-Changing Special Education, and a contributing author to Professional Learning Communities at Work® and High Reliability Schools™: Cultures of Continuous Learning. Her writing and presentations emphasize aligning special education with PLC practices and developing effective, collaborative IEP processes to improve outcomes for all students.
