Kathleen O’Connell Hopping is a coauthor of Why Write in Math Class? K–5, published in 2018, which focuses on integrating exploratory, explanatory, argumentative, creative, and reflective writing into elementary mathematics instruction. The book, written with Linda Dacey and Rebeka Eston Salemi, offers practical strategies, writing prompts, and classroom examples to help teachers use writing to deepen students’ mathematical reasoning and provide insight into their thinking.
She has also coauthored What Are Content Prompts for Math Journals, a resource that provides prompts to help students communicate and reflect on their mathematical understanding in journal form.
