Laney Sammons
Laney Sammons is a former classroom teacher, instructional coach, and independent mathematics consultant who has worked with K–8 teachers across the United States and Canada to improve mathematics instruction. During more than 15 years in elementary classrooms, she developed the Guided Math framework to better address the diverse learning needs of her students and later became known for providing professional development focused on guided math, differentiated instruction, math stretches, and building mathematical comprehension.
She is the author of numerous professional resources for math educators, including Guided Math: A Framework for Mathematics Instruction, Guided Math Conferences, Guided Math Workshop (co‑authored with Donna Boucher), Implementing Guided Math, Building Mathematical Comprehension: Using Literacy Strategies to Make Meaning, and Teaching Students to Communicate Mathematically. Sammons holds an AB in Economics from Vassar College and an MLS in Human Resources from Mercer University.
