Lori Helman
Lori Helman, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Minnesota and a director at the Minnesota Center for Reading Research. Her work focuses on literacy development, assessment, and instruction for multilingual learners, with particular attention to emergent bilingual students, reading difficulties, and schoolwide systems of support.
She has been an elementary bilingual classroom teacher, district literacy coordinator, new-teacher program development leader, teacher educator, and educational researcher. Helman is the author or coauthor of several books, including Assessing Language and Literacy with Bilingual Students: Practices to Support English Learners and Learning in a New Language: A Schoolwide Approach to Support K-8 Emergent Bilinguals.
