Mark Edwards
Mark Edwards is an American education leader and author, best known as co‑author of Spirit Work and the Science of Collaboration with Michael Fullan. He is a former superintendent of the Mooresville Graded School District in North Carolina and was previously a superintendent in Virginia. Edwards was named Virginia Superintendent of the Year in 2001 and North Carolina Superintendent of the Year as well as the AASA National Superintendent of the Year in 2013. His contributions to public education have been recognized with the Harold W. McGraw Jr. Prize in Education (2003), North Carolina’s Order of the Long Leaf Pine (2013), and the Public School Forum of North Carolina Jay Robinson Education Leadership Award (2014).
Edwards is widely noted as a pioneer of one‑to‑one computing and as a collaborative leader in public education, focusing on digital conversion and distributed leadership in school systems. In addition to Spirit Work and the Science of Collaboration, he has authored Every Child Every Day: A Digital Conversion Model for Student Achievement and Thank You for Your Leadership: The Power of Distributed Leadership in a Digital Conversion Model, and co‑authored The Power of Unstoppable Momentum with Michael Fullan.
