Mary Soto
Mary Soto is an assistant professor in the Teacher Education Department at California State University East Bay in Hayward, California, where she prepares preservice and graduate inservice teachers to work effectively with diverse learners, including English learners. Her university is noted for having one of the most diverse student bodies in the continental United States, and her work includes both coursework and school-based observation in partnership with master teachers.
She is a coauthor of Between Worlds, Fourth Edition: Second Language Acquisition in Changing Times and Equitable Access for English Learners, Grades K–6: Strategies and Units for Differentiating Your Language Arts Curriculum, both focused on improving instruction and equitable access to language arts curricula for English learners. In these works, Soto contributes classroom-based examples and instructional strategies drawn from her ongoing work with teacher candidates and K–12 schools serving English learners.
