Mike Ruyle

Mike Ruyle, EdD, is an education author and professional development associate known for his work in classroom assessment, personalized competency-based education, mindfulness, and school culture. He has served as a teacher, athletic coach, adjunct professor, and school leader in the San Francisco Bay Area and Bozeman, Montana for approximately twenty-eight years, including roles as assistant principal and program director. Ruyle earned bachelor’s degrees in history and English from the University of San Francisco and completed master’s and doctoral degrees in educational leadership at Montana State University.

Ruyle is the author of Leading the Evolution: How to Make Personalized Competency-Based Education a Reality and has contributed to the development of performance-based, personalized learning models, including the first fully functional, performance-based school in Montana. He is coauthor of The New Art and Science of Classroom Assessment (Authentic Assessment Methods and Tools for the Classroom), Professional Learning Communities at Work® and High Reliability Schools™: Cultures of Continuous Learning, and Cultivating Mindfulness in the Classroom – an effective, low-cost way for educators to help students manage stress. His expertise in assessment practice, social justice, educational equity, mindfulness, and trauma-informed care has made him a sought-after national and international presenter for schools, districts, and education conferences.
