Rebeka Eston Salemi

Rebeka Eston Salemi is a coauthor of Why Write in Math Class? K–5, a professional resource that supports teachers in integrating writing into elementary mathematics instruction. In this work, she collaborates with mathematics educator Linda Dacey and Kathleen O’Connell Hopping to present practical strategies, writing prompts, and classroom examples that help students construct, represent, and reflect on mathematical ideas through exploratory, explanatory, argumentative, creative, and reflective writing.

Salemi is described as a kindergarten teacher at the Lincoln School in Lincoln, Massachusetts, with a career of nearly forty years focused on how young children make sense of the world around them. Her classroom experience informs the K–5 stories and student work samples featured in Why Write in Math Class?, which illustrate how writing can deepen mathematical understanding and provide teachers with insight into students’ thinking.
