Tashana D. Howse

Dr. Tashana D. Howse is a mathematics educator and academic leader with more than 20 years of experience in mathematics education, spanning K–12 classrooms and preservice teacher preparation. She serves as a professor of mathematics education at Georgia Gwinnett College, where she teaches preservice teachers and supervises elementary and secondary interns. Her research interests include culturally responsive teaching, student engagement in mathematical practices, the use of technology to enhance learning, and teacher content knowledge. Howse holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in mathematics education from Florida State University and a PhD in mathematics education from the University of Central Florida.

In addition to her work in higher education, Howse is co‑author of Making Sense of Mathematics for Teaching Grades K–2: Communicate the Context Behind High‑Cognitive‑Demand Tasks for Purposeful, Productive Learning (Solution Tree Press), collaborating with Juli K. Dixon, Edward C. Nolan, Thomasenia Lott Adams, and Lisa A. Brooks. She is also the co‑founder and Director of Educational Services at the Stellar Achievement Center, where she focuses on providing students of color with opportunities to develop 21st‑century skills and explore STEM pathways.
