Timothy D. Kanold

Timothy D. Kanold, PhD, is an award-winning mathematics educator, author, and consultant, recognized as a national thought leader in mathematics education and professional learning communities. He has served as superintendent and director of mathematics and science for Adlai E. Stevenson High School District 125 in Lincolnshire, Illinois, a widely cited model professional learning community district, and is a past president of the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics (NCSM) and the Council for the Presidential Awardees of Mathematics. Kanold earned a bachelor’s degree in education with a major in mathematics and a master’s degree in applied mathematics from Illinois State University, and a PhD in educational leadership and counseling psychology from Loyola University Chicago. His contributions to the field have been recognized with honors including the 1986 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, the 1994 Outstanding Administrator Award from the Illinois State Board of Education, Loyola University Chicago’s 2010 Damen Award for leadership in education, and the NCSM Ross Taylor/Glen Gilbert National Leadership Award in 2017.
