Timothy O'Leary
Timothy O’Leary, PhD, is an author and educator based in Melbourne, Australia, and founding director (also described as managing director) of Educational Data Talks, a consultancy focused on using educational data to improve teaching and learning. He serves as an Honorary Research Fellow at The University of Melbourne and has worked in education for over 20 years across government, independent, and faith-based schools, in roles ranging from classroom teacher to school leadership, including a position as Director of Learning in an inner‑city F–12 school.
O’Leary is a co‑author of Great Learners by Design: Principles and Practices to Supercharge Learners with John Hattie, Kyle Hattie, and Gregory Donoghue, a work that applies learning theory and evidence‑based strategies to help educators develop self‑sufficient, strategic learners. He is also the author of Classroom Vibe: Practical Strategies for a Better Classroom Culture (2021), which focuses on classroom climate and collective efficacy. His published work includes research on effective score reporting and collective teacher efficacy, reflecting his interest in developmental approaches to teaching and learning and in using data to inform practice.
