Valerie Bolling

Valerie Bolling is an award-winning educator and author who has worked in education for about 30 years, including many years as a classroom teacher and later as an instructional coach for middle and high school teachers. A graduate of Tufts University and Teachers College, Columbia University, she is committed to helping all students become more successful, independent writers and to creating stories in which children of all backgrounds feel seen, heard, valued, and validated.

Bolling is the author of Goal Setting in the Writing Classroom: Building Student Agency, Independence, and Success, her first book for teachers, which draws on her experience as a teacher, instructional coach, and children’s book author to offer practical strategies, lessons, and tools for goal setting in writing instruction. She has also written numerous books for children, including the SCBWI Crystal Kite Award–winning Let’s Dance!, the Kirkus Prize finalist Together We Swim, Together We Ride, Ride, Roll, Run: Time for Fun!, Bing, Bop, Bam: Time to Jam!, I See Color (a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection), A Flea for Justice: Marian Wright Edelman Stands Up for Change, and the Rainbow Days early reader series. Bolling lives in Connecticut with
